Legendary and Lost Art of the 'Cut Throat' Shave
Stuarts Barber Shop is now offering a traditional wet shaving service
as part of the menu.
The
shave is performed using a straight razor with replaceable, disposable
blades ensuring a hygienic and sterile experience. The treatment
consists of a Pre-Shave facial preparation which includes pre-shave oils
and creams and scented hot steam towels to soften the beard. This is followed
by the first lather which is made using a traditional badger hair shaving
brush and the best quality shaving creams from Taylors of Old Bond Street.
There are a wide choice of shaving cream fragrances to choose from including
Sandalwood, Rose (smells a little like Turkish Delight), Limes (lovely
citrus scent) and more traditional 'Gentlemanly' scented creams. The first
'pass' is then made with the razor to reduce the stubble. After the first
pass another hot towel is applied to the face to further soften the remaining
stubble. The first pass of the razor is made 'with the grain' of the beard
to reduce the stubble without irritation. The second pass is made 'across
the grain'. This pass cuts the stubble down to a smooth shave. A final
'water' (a thin wet lather) pass is made to ensure all stubble has been
removed. Stuarts do not advise shaving 'against the grain' of the beard
as this will often cause Razor Burn, ingrown hairs, nicks and irritation.

We use a
razor identical to the one pictured above. It takes replaceable blades
for hygiene reasons. We use top quality platinum coated blades to help
ensure your shave is smooth and irritation free. |
The
Cut Throat Shave and Hygienic Practice
We take health and hygiene very seriously and make sure that all equipment
is clean and sterile. We use a brand new, sterilised blade for each client.
Following the shave the blade is disposed of immediately. We use a hospital
grade disinfectant to wash all equipment after use. All equipment is stored
in an Ultra Violet sterilisation cabinet until it is needed.
